Its aim is to foster dialogue between those working on biblical texts across the Humanities. Past international research projects (for which external funding has been secured and from which publications have been forthcoming) include Perspectives on the Passion (Continuum 2007); From the Margins: Biblical Women and their Afterlives (Sheffield Phoenix 2009); and The Decalogue and its Cultural Influence (Sheffield Phoenix 2013). Our 2024 conference, Reconfiguring Biblical Disability, will be published by Bloomsbury in 2027.
In addition to the above projects, we have also organised various day conferences, such as ‘Texts in Transit: The Cultural Afterlife of the King James Bible’, to mark the 400th anniversary of the KJB in 2011.
Significant international collaborations have been established as a result of the Centre’s activities, with involvement from scholars in Art History, Theology, Music, English, German, Law and Classics.
